A Day With Amy Stewart
Spend the day with Amy Stewart, author of four New York Times
bestsellers, including Flower
Confidential and The Drunken Botanist,
and winner of the American Horticultural Society’s Book Award. Amy’s characteristically spirited lecture on the business of
flowers will answer what has been gained and lost in the quest for the perfect
flower. Does it matter if roses have lost their scent? How do we respond to a
lily that has been bred for the convenience of the grower, not the desires of
the customer? After lunch, discover your drunken botanist with a master class
on making infused vodkas and homemade liqueurs. Learn what herbs and fruit work
best in infusions and how to blend to get the best results. See the complete itinerary and pricing here and register today! Limited number of spaces available.

non-fiction and fiction books concerning food, health, and human ecology. The
Green Book Club always welcomes new members and encourages meeting
participation even if you have not read the whole book. This is the last
meeting until the next session begins in November. Until then, the summer read will be The Signature of All Things, by Elizabeth Gilbert.

Surfrider Community & Member Meeting
On the third Thursday of each month, Surfrider Foundation Miami Chapter hosts the Community & Member Meeting at the Miami Beach
Botanical Garden in the Banyan Room. The public and all concerned with the
protection of our oceans and beaches are welcome. This meeting, Alex Gibbs, Senior Forecaster with the National Weather Service, will speak. Gibbs possesses a keen understanding of, and passion for, near shore wave modeling.
This will be a treat for the hard-core surf community, the amateur wave forecasters among us (where's Pete Ferrer?) and the public safety community since Gibb's talk will include rip current dynamics. Surfrider will also update the community on key initiatives, activism options, serve pizza and beer, and flash some hot surf footage on the screen.

that have perfected their ability to handle this trifecta of difficult growing

The concert will feature a lineup of local bands and artists uniting behind one of their own. Among the confirmed acts are Soundcircles, Electric Owl Revue, Vecinos de la Noche, Uma Galera and DJ Tarra Martinez. Additional entertainment, a silent auction and raffle will round out the evening. Proceeds from the event will go directly to the Guzman Family to aid with medical and rehabilitation costs. Get your ticket now by donating $20 or more here! Tickets will also be available at the door.
Yankel Guzman is a Miami Beach native, known to many as a talented musician, energetic MC and concert producer, suffered a massive brain aneurysm on April 15th due to an abnormal vein rupture and was rushed to Mt. Sinai Medical Center. After several surgeries, Guzman was stabilized and the recovery process began. The severity of the aneurysm has left this enigmatic musician without the ability to speak, walk or move his right side and while none doubt his determination to make a full recovery, the process will be long and costly.
Described as “one of the best human beings we know,” by close friends and colleagues, Guzman is known to those in his community as a genuine, hard-working and intelligent man. “The kind of person who would give you his last dollar and then walk home without a second thought,” says close friend and local celebrity Christie Ashenoff of South Beach Tow fame.
