Rejuvenating Hatha Yoga
These lunchtime yoga sessions encompass a blend of strengthening, stretching and relaxation indoors (during the summer months) in the Butterfly Room. Instructor Terra-Nova (RYT) brings a different theme to class each week that prepares you mentally for the rest of your day, and the rest of your life. Terra-Nova trained at the South Beach Green Monkey yoga studio where she studied a wide variety of yoga forms and philosophies from Ashtanga and Vinyasa, to Iyengar and Kundalini. Students of all experience and levels are invited to pursue a higher state of consciousness and refresh the mind and body. Mats are available on a first-come first serve basis. Suggested donation of $5 for Garden members, $10 non-members.

Meditation is a natural state of mind that we are born with but become distanced from through the stresses of everyday life. There are techniques which have been used for millennium which allow us to achieve this wonderful state in a short time. Those who attend meditation sessions regularly will quickly learn to practice these techniques, such as simply following your breath, and will reach a meditative state while reducing stress, increasing memory, improving physical health and mental awareness. Henry Brown will lead students through a one-hour journey inwards, in the Butterfly Room every Tuesday. These group meditations include individual instruction to assist attendees to meditate and reach a comfortable personal level of relaxation. Free for everyone to attend. Donations from non-Garden members are encouraged to allow the Garden to continue offering similar soul-nourishing programs.

ECOMB presents a FREE outdoor screening of National Geographic's documentary, Earth Under Water. Miami, New Orleans and New York City could be completely underwater if sea levels continue to rise. In the movie, leading experts will forecast how mankind will be impacted if global warming continues, and explore ways how humanity could adapt, such as building floating cities. Can anyone say Waterworld?

Surfrider Community & Member Meeting
On the third Thursday of each month, Surfrider Foundation Miami Chapter hosts the Community & Member Meeting at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden in the Banyan Room. The public and all concerned with the protection of our oceans and beaches are welcome. We will introduce new leaders and volunteers, update the community on environmental protection initiatives, and pass out information on upcoming events and fundraisers. Brief movies may be screened. Afterwards get a chance to network and talk surf stories.

The Four Elements Art Exhibit Reception
The 4 Elements is an art show presented by the Artist Colony, a critique group from Arts at St. Johns. We have created visual art to represent the Four classical elements: water, air, fire, and earth. Some of the art is literal and some will be more influenced by these elements. Saturday, August 30 is the opening night reception free and open to the public. Come enjoy some light bites and meet the artists.

Reading Queer FestivalReading Queer seeks to reveal Miami as a center for queer literature with an annual week-long literary festival led by nationally and locally recognized queer writers who create hybrid, genre-bending works that address queer identity. This inaugural Reading Queer Festival is the first ever of its kind in Miami and runs from August 22-30th, culminating with a performance at the Garden with headline poet L. Lamar Wilson, who has just published his first collection of poems, Sacreligion. This book was selected by Lee Ann Brown for the Carolina Wren Press Poetry Series, and individual poems have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and won the 2011 Beau Boudreax Poetry Prize.
