Green Book Club
Wednesday, January 7

The Green Book Club meets the first Wednesday of the month to discuss the previous month’s read. This month’s discussion is about Mister Owita’s Guide to Gardening, by Carol Wall. Currently the book to be reading for discussion next month is The World as Garden: The Life and Writings of David Fairchild, edited by David Lee. Come join the group for a conversation about non-fiction and fiction books concerning food, health, and human ecology. The club always welcomes new members.










Pastels Workshop
Wednesdays, January 7 - Feb. 11
10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Join nationally-recognized and award-winning pastel artist Jacqueline Roch, for this dynamic class. The course will focus on fundamental pastel techniques and developing good compositions, concentrating on contrast, color, and proportion. Classes are conducted en-plein-aire as well as indoors. Watercolor Workshop

10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Learn to paint spontaneous watercolors outside in the Garden. This beginner course will focus on achieving graceful representations of the wide array of flora. Artist Will McGaul will demonstrate and guide you through the techniques of planning your compositions, drawing, mixing colors, and capturing the beauty of nature. Essential Oils Workshop:Citrus for Health and Perfume

6 to 8 p.m.
Create your own essential oil blend with Elise Pearlstine, the owner and perfumer of Tambela Natural Perfumes. Her artisianal perfumes are all natural, inspired by her life spent outdoors as a wildlife biologist. This workshop is based on last season’s popular aromatherapy workshop, where students created different household and body products. Learn more and register here.



Babies in the Garden
Thursdays January 8 - March 5

Babies in the Garden is a one-of-a kind experience specially designed for babies ages 3-11 months old. Using nature as our inspiration, this class combines gentle yoga poses for mom and baby and massage for baby. Mom (or dad and other caregiver) can relax, exercise, and build community with other parents while the little ones have fun, interact, and develop their gross and fine motor skills. Class instructor Meldy Hernandez is a registered nurse, yoga teacher, and massage therapist with over 15 years experience working with families and babies. Register online. Mommy & Me Garden Adventures
Thursdays January 8 - March 5

It‘s never too early to introduce your toddler to the wonders of nature and gardening fun! This multisensory class uses song, dance, games, garden stories, show and tell, art, and seed planting to engage your child’s natural curiosity. The themes of recycling and taking care of the earth will be woven throughout the activities. Register online. Limited space available.










Totally Tomatoes!
Saturday, January 10
10 a.m. to noon
Learn everything you ever wanted to know about these lovable and edible nightshade plants in this free Saturday Seminar. Teena Boreck will explain the fascinating history of tomato farming in Florida, how you can be successful in cultivating your own crop, and why the homegrown heirloom varieties taste so much better than those hard red rocks found in some grocery stores.

Teena runs a 3rd generation sustainable farm in Homestead, FL and knows a thing or two about tomatoes, being a board member of the Florida Tomato Committee and the Florida Fruit & Vegetable Association.

Photography Workshop
Saturdays, January 10 - 31
10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Learn the artistic and technical skills of taking digital images including camera settings and basic Photoshop editing. This beginner class meets in the Garden and is a great way to discover your artistic talents and develop your connection with nature at the same time. Surfrider Community Meeting

On the third Thursday of each month, Surfrider Foundation Miami Chapter hosts the Community & Member Meeting at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden in the Banyan Room. The public and all concerned with the protection of our oceans and beaches are welcome. Get updated on environmental protection initiatives, upcoming events and fundraisers. Brief movies may be screened. Afterwards get a chance to network and talk surf stories.










Taste of the Garden

Taste of the Garden is the Garden’s largest fundraiser, and one of the most anticipated events on the Beach every year. Join us as 20 premier chefs and restaurants create a magical outdoor dining experience under tents on the Garden’s Great Lawn. Sample delectable cuisine and cocktails, enjoy live entertainment, and place your bids in our exciting silent auction. Tickets are $85 for Garden Members and $100 for non-members. 10 to 11 a.m.
Meditation practitioner for over 20 years and certified hypno-therapist Henry Brown teaches relaxation techniques that reduce stress, increase memory, and improve mental awareness. This increases quality of life, boosts general mood and helps you stay zen in any situation.

Did you know that Buddha became enlightened sitting under a ficus tree? Meditate under our Ficus benjamina and discover your own purpose for being. Yoga classes in the Garden encompass a blend of strengthening, stretching and relaxation outdoors on the terrace. All donations given at this class support the Garden. Suggested donation of $5 for Garden members, $10 non-members. Saturday classes are taught by Mike Dannheim. Wednesday classes are taught by Terra-Nova.

Crumb Garden Cafe & Michy's Pop Up Restaurant
The Crumb Cafe offers attendees of Art Basel a quick and delicious lunch sourced from local, organic farms. The menu includes creative salads, sandwiches, and grilled dishes. Open 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. No reservations required.

The Garden is hosting one of many American convertibles from the 40’s and 50’s from www.antiquecarcitytour.com offered at various points around the Beach for chauffeured, narrated tours of the area. Tasty Traditions of the Botanical Holiday
This free entertaining presentation is all about what really brings us all together for the holidays. Food! Dorothee Rubin, a food historian and member of Les Dames d’Escoffier will tell the stories of scrumptious sugar plums, why we enjoy eggnog, and how to roast chestnuts on open fires. Afterwards, sample some treats mentioned in the lecture and brainstorm with others about what to do with that damn fruitcake!

Free Meditation Hour*
Meditation practitioner for over 20 years and clinical hypnosis therapist Henry Brown leads students through a one-hour journey inward every Tuesday in the Butterfly room. Meditation is a natural state of mind that brings balance to the bodily systems. There are techniques which have been used for millennium which allow us to achieve this wonderful state in a short time. Those who attend meditation sessions regularly will quickly learn to practice these techniques and reach a meditative state to reduce stress, increase memory, improve physical health and mental awareness. These group meditations include individual instruction to assist attendees to meditate and reach a comfortable personal level of relaxation. These sessions are free for everyone to attend. Donations from non-Garden members are encouraged.
