Free Outdoor Play: The Zoo Story
Ground Up & Rising presents The Zoo Story by Edward Albee in the second season of free outdoor theater in a beautiful garden setting. Peter is a middle-class publishing executive with a wife, two daughters, two cats, and two parakeets. Jerry is an isolated and disheartened man. These men meet on a park bench in New York's Central Park. Jerry is desperate to have a meaningful conversation with another human being. The elements of ironic humor and unrelenting dramatic suspense are brought to a climax when Jerry brings his victim down to his own savage level. The play explores themes of isolation, loneliness, miscommunication as anathematization, social disparity and dehumanization in a commercial world.
This Pulitzer prize winning masterpiece will be performed at 5 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. Each performance runs approximately 50 minutes. The Garden will provide seating and everyone is encouraged to bring their own seating if they prefer or a blanket for the lawn.

Wok Star Cooking Workshop
Join Wok Star Eleanor Hoh for a three-hour wok workshop. It's a perfect activity for parents and kids on a leisurely Sunday afternoon. Her simple, fun, NO-RECIPE technique for busy weeknight dinners using fresh ingredients and only four seasonings keeps it light and healthy.
In this workshop, Eleanor will demystify the art of wok cooking. You'll explore new ingredients and learn Asian cutting techniques. There'll be handouts with brands, Asian markets and a handy stir-fry crib sheet. She'll show how easy it is to wok up one-dish meals in 30 minutes and with very little clean up. Three dishes will illustrate her road map approach to cooking. Drinks are sponsored by Barton & Guestier's Bouvray wine and Fiji Water. There'll be giveaways from premium sponsors. Herbs and seasonal vegetables from the Edible Garden may be used in class. Registration and payment is required and space is limited. Members of the Garden receive a $15 discount!
