Wednesday, December 11
11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Green Book Club
The Green Book Club meets the second Wednesday of the month to discuss the previous month’s read. Come join the group for a conversation about The Seed Underground: A Growing Revolution to Save Food by Janisse Ray, winner of The American Horticultural Society Book Award. The New York Times has proclaimed Ray as The Rachel Carson of the South, and in this book she brings us inspiring stories of ordinary gardeners whose aim is to save time-honored, open pollinated varieties of seeds. Of the thousands of seed varieties available at the turn of the 20th century, 94% have been lost. She recounts the stories, heritage and history that pass between these people as seeds are passed from hand to hand.

Wednesday, December 18
7 to 10 p.m.
Outdoor Film: Scrooge and Marly
Join the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival for a holiday party with appetizers and an open bar from 7 to 8 p.m. followed by a screening of holiday film Scrooge and Marly. This movie is a modern day gay variation on Charles Dicken’s classic story of the holidays, A Christmas Carol. On Christmas Eve, Ben Scrooge, a gay man who hates the holidays, is given the chance to begin again when he is visited by three gay spirits who help him make the journey back to love. Recounted from a gay sensibility with heart, comedy and music, the magic of Dickens’ timeless tale comes alive from a fresh perspective that will appeal to audiences of all persuasions. $12 entrance. Tickets available here.
