The Garden Market
The Garden Market is a weekly farmers market that takes place rain or shine every Wednesday. Vendors from The Market Company will be selling local fruits and veggies, pastries and breads, candles and soaps, and much more. The Market is not just for shopping however. We will also be hosting weekly yoga classes at 12:30 p.m. These 45 minute sessions are FREE for members with a suggested $10 donation for non-members. Click here for the instructor's bio. Weekly gardening workshops will also be on the agenda, at 11 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. The February 27 workshop will show how to make your own herbed butter and sprouts. Lastly, the Garden will host a plant sale and an orchid exchange: Trade in your current orchid for a $5 coupon off a new one in bloom.

Healthy New You! Women’s Health & Wellbeing in 2013
As a woman, are you taking care of yourself first? What is the best way for women to incorporate fitness into their routines? What about food and diets, relationships and life goals? Find the answers to these questions at the Healthy New You! women’s wellness panel. This panel features speakers such as Dr. Emmanuella Wolloch, speaking on holistic medicine, trainers from Iron Flower Fitness, weight loss planners from Heal with Angels, nutrition experts, and relationship coaches. There will also be a raffle and box lunches provided by Shape Lovers.  Entrance fee is $20 and 100% of all funds will go to Relay for Life 2013! One free raffle ticket is included with registration. The Garden will be tabling at South Pointe Elementary School  at 1040th 4th Street. Spend a beautiful day outside with family & friends! Connect with your community, exercise your body, craft art, eat and shop local, and learn some new eco tips! Proceeds support the school’s edible gardens. Free yoga, karate demos, games, food, and more! The Garden will be helping children make their own flowers out of tissue paper.

Green Book Club is Reading Swamplandia
Meet new people, become a better writer, and experience books in a whole new way. This group reads and discusses environmentally-themed books chosen and read during the month preceding each meeting. February’s read is by a local Coral Gables author and Pulitzer Prize Nominee, Karen Russel. The book is Swamplandia, which imagines the pleasures and miseries of life in a failing alligator theme park in the Everglades. The story unfolds with a backdrop on the Everglades, including its tragic history of its indigenous people and wildlife. This book was named one of the best books in 2011 by the New York Times. The Bar Lab guys will forage the Garden for fresh herbs and plants, then turn them into magical libations, while My Ceviche’s Sam Gorenstein will serve up his uber fresh seafood creations. And if you think you know Emeril by his TV show, wait until you see him after dark. This man can seriously party with the best of them!

Free Lecture: Bamboo & You
Greetings from Bambooland!
Gary Rich "The Bamboo Man" will present an overview of bamboo and reasons that you should consider planting bamboos in your South Florida garden. (Hint: It's one of the best ways to counteract global warming!) Gary will also talk about the difference between running and clumping bamboo, how to choose the right variety of bamboo for the particular needs of your garden, and how to plant, maintain, water, fertilize, mulch and prune these beautiful grasses. Recommendations on useful tools to obtain the maximum results from your bamboo plants will also be provided. Plants will be available for sale after the lecture. When planted properly and knowledgeably, these giant grasses can grow to formidable forests, guaranteed to leave passersby slack-jawed. Come join us for this Saturday morning lecture. Dance NOW! Performance
Dancers bounce between concrete benches, balance precariously at the edge of pools, and retell passionate stories of enchantment. The magic of dance brings to life the newly renovated Garden in this performance inspired by the Garden’s architectural elements, artwork, and landscaping. This FREE performance is sponsored by a generous grant from the Miami Beach Arts Trust. Dance NOW! Produces contemporary dance of the highest caliber and makes the art of dance accessible to everyone. They have won awards such as Top Ten Dance Events of the year (Miami Herald) and Best Experimental Dance Company (Miami Sun Post). Click here for their calendar of events.

Floral Design Class-Horizontal Designs and Table Settings
Spend the day learning from accredited floral designers, who combine lectures, demos and critiqued hands-on workshops to develop an understanding of the art of flower arranging. This class is the fourth unit of a six-part floral design study hosted by the Miami Beach Garden Club.  Class costs $28 to attend: lunch is included! Come visit the Garden in the evening for light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments. We will be celebrating all those who have donated to the Garden and helped us grow. We will also be showing off our new statue: A replica of a warrior from the Terracotta Army in China, a UNESCO world heritage site. The statue is a gift to Miami Beach from China.

Arts Social and Silent Art Auction
The SALA Arts Social celebrates 12 years of work by Art at St. Johns (ASJ) with music, dance, the visual arts, refreshments, drinks, interactive DJ music, networking and a silent arts auction. The music and dance includes performances by many artists who have performed at ASJ, including a Middle Eastern dance by Tiffany hanan Madera. The visual arts include a group show by the Artist Colony (a Miami artist collaborative), and art had-selected for the silent auction by ASJ founding director, Carol Hoffman-Guzmán and her husband Roberto Guzmán, who have been collecting art from local and emerging artists for over 40 years. The auction includes works by Florida and Colorado artists Ed King, Debra Cortese, Ignacio Font, Chloe Firetto-Toomey, Paula Turk, Louis Recchia, Zoa Ace, and more. Cocktail hour begins at 6:30 pm and includes the new "Chris-tini" cocktail created by Chris Peña, ASJ's past Board President. Create Your Intention for the New Year Workshop
 

Cindy Hill of Once Upon a Carrot hosts this workshop based on Weston A. Price's healthy food principles. This local chapter of the Weston A. Price Foundation has a mission to educate the local community on the importance of eating nutrient-dense foods, supporting sustainable agriculture, and preparing food in traditional ways. We can all achieve radiant health through the wise principles practiced by non-industrialized primitive cultures, as presented in the research of Dr. Price. Admission is free! There will be a lecture, open forum, and traditional food demonstration.

Free Educational Lecture: Growing Roses in South Florida 
This presenter was so popular last year, we had to bring him back! Roger Stone of Stone’s Rose Gardening (Davie, FL) will explain the basics of maintaining rose plants for our particular climate (it is possible!) Mr. Stone will talk about proper species selection, environmental requirements, pruning techniques, tips on pests and disease, and tricks for obtaining the perfect blooms. The lecture will end with answers to all your questions and a raffle on sample rose plants to take home.
